Restoring From Time Machine

I have a Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2019, 3 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i5, Radeon Pro 560X 4 GB, 8 GB 2667 MHz DDR4, macOS Sonoma Version 14.0, and I keep having problems since the update to Sonoma 14.0.

Can I restore from a Time Machine backup, and how can I determine when I went to Sonoma 14.0?

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try to restore from my Time Machine today - we had a 4-1/2 hour power outage that threw a wrench into our plans. I did try to reinstall my current iOS (Sonoma 14.0), but that wasn't helpful at all. The good news is that even if I mess up the Mac, I can still reach out via my iPad :->

Better today… I’m in the process of restoring my Mac via Migration Assistant to the last backup prior to updating to Sonoma 14.0, and I’m updating the entire system. When done, I’ll go back into Migration Assistant again, and restore the Applications, User Account, and Other Files & Folders to the most current backup, while leaving the System and Network files as is. I hope this sounds like I’m on the right track.

It’s a couple of hours still until the first restoration is done, so I’ll probably finish up tomorrow.

Thanks, BDAqua for your continuing help!

After several hours of waiting for the Migration Assistant to restore from a previous backup (iOS13.5.2 dated 9/8/2023), and do all the syncs, etc, I opened my Mac and checked “About This Mac” to see what macOS was listed, and it came up “Sonoma 14.1.” I’m not sure what I did incorrectly, but any help in solving this dilemma would be greatly appreciated. So far, any changes that have occurred have not been positive. When given the choice to select the information to transfer, I left all of the options - Applications, User, Other Files & Folders, and System & Network - checked. I’m willing to try this again to see if it will get me back to macOS 13.5.2, and solve my problem.

Thanks,

Don

The migration is pretty much complete. I had to update my Quicken files from the Quicken backup files that I keep current, but most everything else is up and working except a couple of Photo related items. I don't have all of my Shared Albums and some of my most recent photos back on my Photos page, but they still show on my iPad and iPhone, so I'm hoping that they will eventually sync over to the Mac from iCloud. The other thing is that I was using the shared albums folders to populate my wallpaper photos, and with those not showing up, I don't (yet) have the wallpaper right. If things sync over from iCloud to the Mac (I hope) that this will clear up as well. Your thoughts would be welcome, and your help and patience is greatly appreciated.

Well, everything is pretty much done. The photos and albums did sync with iCloud and repopulate the Mac, but I still cannot get the wallpaper function to accept a shared album as a source, even though I can display a single photo from that album. I've checked all the settings I can think of, and can post screenshots if you think it would help.

On the + side, it appears that my computer is running much faster for now.

Thanks again for your help and patience.
