After installing Mac OS Sonoma there is a constant green dot on the menu bar. It disappears only after restarting the mac. The camera is not working (I hope). Seems to start when I start Zoom but it never goes away. The green dot placement can be anywhere on the menu bar. Sometimes it is in the middle and sometimes on the far right.

This topic lead me to a workaround: green dot at top right corner of screen - Apple Community
Basically, to get rid of the green dot, open "Photo Booth", fullscreen it, and exit full screen again.

Ignore it, live with it. No one seems to know what’s causing it and very few are experiencing it. Chalk it up to a glitch or anomaly and go on about your business. Or continue to obsess over it. Your choice.
This isn't the dot we're talking about. Look at the screenshots ppl have posted - both Artem_Fedorov and maxwhyam have posted pictures of it. We're not talking about the dot next to the Notifications Menu icon, that one is functioning as normal; we're talking about this strange green dot (for me it's just left of center) that appears even when neither the camera nor mic are in use, as people have already stated.
Not sure if people are still having this issue but I just updated to Sonoma 14.6.1 and had it happen for the first time.
For me it was showing a green dot in the middle of my screen and a green camera that looked like the FaceTime app at the top of the screen beside my battery/wifi/control center etc. when I clicked the camera it showed me in real time lol trying to figure out wtf was going on. It said it was google chrome.
i was able to fix it by going to privacy and security > camera and toggling off google chrome (zoom still has access). It did turn the green light off and remove the camera. I went back in and toggled it back on and the light is still gone and no camera is there. seemed like an easy fix for a super annoying issue but it’s worth a try to anyone else that has this happen 🤷🏻♀️

Does it remain after a restart?
it goes away, for an hour or so.
I went to the Security and Privacy section, removed all access to camera for apps listed, the green dot is still there unless I restart
In your case, does it show up in a screen shot or only when you take a picture of your screen?
Only when I take a picture of the screen.
Mac Jim ID, thanks for trying to help! But I'm 99% positive this is NOT a hardware failing, its most definitely a software issue.
I actually find the MBP M1 pro to be solid. A few issues here and there but nothing compared to Windows. I'll never go back to that horrible experience.
I think you are right. I haven't notice the green dot after using Zoom or any other camera sharing. I will report back if it pops again.

If I do a screen shot it's not there, and if I move my cursor over it'll be gone so it's not a dead pixel?
