iPhone 10 camera turns black if zoom gets to 2.0. What do I do to get more zoom?

Zoom on camera has changed Since the last iPhone iOS download the zoom operation has changed on the camera. I can no longer go from 1 to 5 smoothly on zoom for video. It stops momentarily on each number which makes the video look jerky when zooming in and out. Have tried hard reset but no good. Any tips ?

iPad Pro 13 does not zoom out past 1 x My old iPad Pro 12.9 can zoom out to 0.5x but my new iPad Pro 13 can only zoom out to 1x - this makes it useless to me - is there any way to make the camera zoom out further?
