Voicemail greeting keeps going back to default, won’t remain on custom setting

I just recently transferred my information from an older iPhone to a new iPhone, and although my voicemail greeting, when you hit custom, would play and it sounded exactly the same as it was on the old phone, it would not save it. It kept bouncing back to the phones default greeting, instead of using my custom greeting. The only way I found to correct that, is to redo a whole new greeting. Then the word “Save” will highlight and you can click save and for me, it has now held my custom voicemail greeting. I hope this makes sense and has helped.

I called my carrier and the automated assistant sent me a link on how to fix it. I have AT&T, and it worked for me. Bring up the keypad on your phone, and press and hold 1. The automation will give you some options. When it says the "Greetings" option, press the corresponding number it gives you to access that option. It will then walk you through a few options for new voicemails.

I really hope this helps. This was a pain in the butt to fix for me.

May help if set greeting through a phone call to your voicemail. I called from my cell phone. It brought me into my voicemail without initially playing the greeting and ATT had a greeting option I pressed and selected custom and my old recording was there. I selected that and checked the setting on my phone and it changed before my eyes from default to custom. Fingers crossed it stays bc I also use this for business.

Turning live voicemail off has been reported to work. I have an iPhone 8 and voicemail shows as readable but no option to unselect.

videos said change region back and forth US and Canada and keep checking and live voicemail should show up under phone but still not listed.

may software is iOS 16.1 and saw apple says iOS 17, which version discusses in videos on in selecting LV, is not compatible below iPhone 11 and is compatible with Sr, Sx and 2nd and 3rd gen SEs. Guess that’s how they sell their phones rather than actually making all the features work or giving a hoot about the impact on business phone

OK, so I turned off live voicemail as I found the button for it. When I do that and go into voicemail and press on greeting, it puts a white bar across the top and then I can’t choose any of the options below and it doesn’t prompt me to enter my greeting at all. If I swipe down on the white bar, then I can get out of it, so there is a bug That needs to be fixed
