switching screens while typing

Since doing the iOS 17update no matter where I am typing a message. Text, Instagram, WhatsApp, or even making a note in notes, my phone will randomly close the window I am typing in and opening another of my opened app tabs.

while typing this message, it opened text messages and Instagram 🤷🏼‍♀️ I don't know which setting to even try fixing.

even if I swipe all my open apps closed it will open one. Never happened before this update

I'm having the same issue - the phone thinks I'm trying to switch apps when I'm just typing. It's driving me crazy. I'm installing 17.1.1 right now to see if it stops. It's making my phone extremely frustrating to use.

Three basic troubleshooting steps to perform (test after each attempt):

A) Try a "forced" restart of your device using these instructions: Put it on charge for at least half an hour, then, keeping it plugged in, use these gestures:

In rapid sequence, press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the side (power) button. Only when the Apple logo appears (it might take 10-20 seconds), release that button (ignore all other screens that might appear, the one with the "slider" to turn the device off included).

B) If you can, check your battery status in Settings>Battery>Battery Health & Charging>Maximum capacity. If it is close to 83-80%, have it replaced as soon as possible, since it might have unpredictable behavior.

C) If the issue persists, something could have gone wrong during the latest update procedure.

I would try to install a fresh copy of iOS/iPadOS (the latest available/supported by your device model). To do this, create a full backup of your iPhone/iPad (1), then restore it to factory settings (you need a computer to perform this step) and, in the end, set it up as new (2).

When done, restore data from your previously made backup (3).

Follow the instructions provided in these support articles:

(1) How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – Apple Support

(2) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings – Apple Support

(3) Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If the issue still persists, it might be a hardware (digitizer? other internal component?) failure, and I suggest that you make an appointment (*) and have your device inspected at an Apple Store or AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) among this list:--> https://locate.apple.com/choose-country-region . After checking it out, they'll give you all the available options.

Regards

Giulio

First of all I have tried to “google” this problem for DAYS!! I am so happy I was finally able to find my “tribe”. The situation with the phone makes me want to turn it in and be done! I’m curious… are any of you left handed?

Also… how do I disable reachabilities? Thanks so much, and as awful as this problem is, I am beyond grateful that I am NOT the only one! Thx, guys!
