I think that’s not fair because you can’t even watch Netflix on your iPad if it’s an iPad Air too because it doesn’t support Netflix because Netflix needs 16.0 or higher I think you guys need to update these tablets. They’re still in good condition and they shouldn’t be obsolete.

Bro , everyone is not that rich like you that they can afford newer models of apple devices while their old ones are in good working condition.
Tell Netflix you need support for your iPad Air 2. It is the
developer's choice which devices and what versions of
iOS/iPadOS they support.
If Netflix cannot be supported for iOS 15, either Apple should provide iOS 16 or should provide older version of Netflix that works with 15. It is unfair that you are forcing people to update when hardware and rest of apps working fine and just decided that you will not support it. Let us choose to continue with older version of Netflix.
That really upsets me as I bought 2, ipad2 s brand new with lots of Gigabytes so that my mom and I wouldn’t have to replace them because of memory issues and now this!! Totally unfair!!!
Sorry, no. iPadOS 15.8 is the most recent update for an iPad Air 2. It did not get any of the iPadOS 16 or 17 versions.
According to NYT customer service it was Apple that forced this change. I bought this iPad about 6 years ago. It still runs fast, has plenty of storage and memory. There is no clear reason to me why these apps would no longer support it. You are not going to convince me that Apple isn’t aware of what they are doing here.
https://www.netflix.com/browse
You can still use it via an internet browser.
How is this unfair, the ipad air 2 was released 10 years ago

It’s HORRIBLE! Netflix will not run on my IBM PC/XT that I bought in 1984!

I can no longer read the NYT on my iPad Air 2 as of this week. I’m very disappointed with Apple. There is nothing wrong with this tablet. It works well but now is not supported on NYT, Netflix …. This is clearly a way for Apple to force users to buy a new, expensive iPad. Shame on you Apple. Eventually this will come back to hurt your bottom line. Unhappy, angry customers will eventually find an alternative.
You can use Safari to go to https://nytimes.com on your iPad. You should not be disappointed with Apple; it is the New York Times that chose not to support older versions of iOS when they could have. What other alternative did you have in mind? Apple supports iOS updates for 7 years after a product is discontinued. Android, only 3.
Your iPad Air 2 was released 10 years ago, and discontinued 8 years ago, in 2016. That makes it a very old, obsolete device.

Only Netflix can provide the older version of their software. For whatever reasons, they have chosen not to. Apple can't force them to do so.
NYT customer service lied to you. When you bought it the iPad Air 2 had been discontinued 2 years earlier; you (hopefully) knowingly bought an obsolescent device. I’m not out to convince you of anything. I am just stating facts. I know facts are out of fashion these days, but I still accept them. As a software developer I can tell you that it is always the choice of an app provider for the versions of any operating system that they are willing to support.
The Times decision may have been based on economics; they wanted to take advantage of new features in iOS 16 and later, but to support an older version they would have had to fork the development tree and essentially maintain 2 versions, which would have increased their development and support costs.
Facts are very important to me. Why is Apple not providing a way to upgrade to iOS 16? What is the specific reason? Is it a technical issue? Does Apple not want to spend money testing the OS on this device? I’m clearly not the only one bothered by this lack of support by Apple.

The decision to support specific versions of iPadOS are entirely that of an App Developer - not Apple.
As such, if an App requires a more recent version of iPadOS than your iPad is capable, you need to express your disappointment to the Developer of the respective App:
