I have the Epson Perfection 4490 Photo Scanner and I can't get the Epson software to work or even acknowledge that the Scanner is attached. Does anyone have any idea what I need to do?

Connect the scanner directly to your Mac (using a USB-C to USB-A adapter or cable, not through a hub. Epson released an ICA scanner driver on Oct 2022 for this device and that would potentially work with Monterey and later. Once this scanner driver is in place and you visit System Preferences : Printers & Scanners panel and add the device, Apple's Image Capture Utility and the optional, paid VueScan Professional (free trial) would support the scanner.
