Apple watch 6 - Iphone 8

When I try to search for update on my watch it says error try again. When I try to search for an update thru my phone app it says my phone must be updated first. My phone is updated. I cannot get past this message.

I tried turning off both, unpairing my watch from my phone. Nothing has worked.

Help please.

apple watch unable to check for update error iphone software is up to date but apple watch app states update iphone software. Trying to update from watch shows unable to check updates error. restarting watch and phone, unpairing and pairing, resetting wifi had no impact.

My phone iPhone X is updated 16.7.2 but Apple Watch cannot update, needs update of iPhone first. On Apple Watch (although connected to internet) "Unable to check for update". I have reset (complete) watch numerous times yesterday. If trying to update through iPhone X, it gives error "Update iPhone first" but phone is up to date 16.7.2

What watchOS version is currently on your watch? watchOS 10 requires an iPhone with iOS 17 which cannot be installed on an iPhone 8.
