Any machine older than 4 years old may have a capacitor or battery that controls the CMOS/PRAM that has basically lost the information of the computer time.

When you connect the computer to the internet, Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Date and Time will link to a time server that corrects the issue.

If you have new software installation that is not progressing it may be due to the fact the security certificates are out of sync with the time necessary. For an older Mac Pro you may need to consider manually setting the time to:

September 24, 2018 for Mojave release date, if updating High Sierra.

September 30, 2015 El Capitan release date if updating Yosemite or earlier.

Apple's OS update cycle was as follows

Snow Leopard August 28, 2009

Lion July 22, 2011

Mountain Lion - El Capitan compatibility all exist on the same computer.

Sierra and and High Sierra compatibility are the same for slightly newer computers.

Xeon Mac Pros typically were released prior to 2013 unless you have the

Mac Pro, which was current until 2019.

If you have a 2019 or later Mac Pro let us know.
