How do I turn off the "today/yesterday/previous 7 days, etc" grouping in the pop-up "where:" window whenever I save a file while working on something?

  1. Up to OS Big Sur, I never had this issue. Now after getting a new Mac with preinstalled OS Ventura, the default seems to be grouping on location folders into today, yesterday & last seven days, etc., or I might have hit a button unknowingly. I just want to see all the folders that are on my desktop where I frequently save.
  2. How do I stop TextEdit from saving in the "TextEdit" Folder on iCloud Drive as the default? I would like to set the default as "Desktop."

Thank you all for any pointers.

Mac Studio, macOS 13.5

  1. In the Finder's View menu, make sure that "Use Groups" is not checked.

Then in the Sort by submenu, choose the sort order you want (e.g. by name).

For 2: AFAICT the default save location for a new document is wherever you saved last, so save something to your Desktop, make a new document, and try to save - does it still default to iCloud?

Note: for existing documents, the default for "Save As..." is the location of the source document.
