Extracting playlists from .itl file without overwriting current library?

Hi everybody,

I have some old .itl files in my Time Machine backups and I want to take a look at them, mostly to recover old playlists that have been lost over the course of the last few years. It doesn’t sound like there’s an easy way to just view the file’s data, but I also don’t want to just open it and have it replace all of the info I have in my current library.

So, anyone know a good way to just get old playlists from an .itl file, or to do it in a way where I won’t lose my current library?

Press and hold down option when launching Music, select the .itl file that you want to open, you will be prompted to choose a new location and name for the converted .musiclibrary file, export the playlist of interest, then option-start-Music and select your original .musiclibrary database. Import the list you exported.
