iPhone 15 Pro Max Battery Health Dropped To 99% In Less Than A Month

My brother and I purchased the new iPhone 15 Pro Max when it released in September. At the beginning the iPhone was overheating even when charging. I also noticed that the battery would drain very quickly. I charge my phone up to 85-95% & only charge it to 100% when I know I will be out & about all day. But most of the time even if I do go out all day the max I charge the phone to is 95%.

I checked my battery health and it says 99% which is insane & NOT normal for a brand new iPhone that’s not even 2 months old. My brothers phone is at 100% on battery life and he is CONSTANTLY on his phone.

I’ve contacted apple and they have done their little test and shows that everything is fine but they don’t give an explanation as to WHY the iPhone has dropped to 99 in less than 2 months as well as to why the battery drains so quickly.

My iPhone is also updated to the latest IOS 17.1

I’ve had iPhone since the 4s & this is the first time I have experienced my iPhone battery health dropped to 99 in less than 2 months & the battery draining quicker than my old iPhone 13 Pro Max that had a battery life of 83% after having it for 2 years. I have always been careful with battery health & hardly charge to 100% and have gone 1-2 days until needing to charge my iPhone.

is anyone else having this issue? Apple hasn’t been very helpful and says my phone is fine even though the battery performance has been horrible even after the new update they claimed fixed the problem. I’m still having this problem & it’s coasting the health of my battery.

I shut off all background app refresh to see if it helps & so far it seems to be doing a little ok but the fact that the battery performance has been bad I’m very disappointed with apple.

I am having the same issue, I have contacted Apple support via messages and they mentioned there is an issue with my phone and asked me if I want a replacement phone to be sent and to charge me the shipping cost or to go to the Apple store. I said I go to the Apple store, and I went there the staff told me and the manager there was no problem with my phone i asked them why they gave me an option to come here, they replied because apple online has a different procedure. they wasted my time and very bad experience.

Your battery did not drop 1%. It probably dropped 0.1% from 100% to 99.9%, because the gauge in the phone just displays the whole number, not the fraction, so 99.9% appears as 99%. But any loss of capacity is NORMAL.

Batteries are consumables; they lose a little capacity every time they are discharged, then recharged. On average this works out to about a 1% loss for every 25 “full charge cycles”. As one example, if you charge the phone overnight, every night (and that is what you should do; it is a best practice), it starts the day at 100%. If it drops to 20% by the end of the day before you charge it again overnight that counts as 0.8 full charge cycles (20% to 100%), or about 24 full charge cycles per month of use. For this example your battery capacity will lose about 1% per month. Of course, if the end-of-day level is higher than 20% the capacity loss will be a little less, and if it is lower than 20%, or you charge it during the day, the capacity loss will be higher.

Once the capacity drops below 80%, or if there is a message in Battery Health that the battery is not meeting peak performance expectations, it’s time to change the battery→iPhone Battery Replacement - Official Apple Support

The absolute best way to get maximum use on a charge, as well as slow the decline of battery capacity long term is to enable Optimized Battery Charging (Settings/Battery/Battery Health) and charge the device overnight, every night. The battery will fast charge to 80%, then pause. During the nighttime pause the phone will use mains power instead of battery power, allowing the battery to “rest”, and thus reducing the need to charge the battery quite as often. The phone will resume charging to reach 100% when you are ready to use your phone; it will “learn” your usage pattern. If you enable iCloud Backup (Settings/[your name]/iCloud - iCloud Backup) the phone will back up overnight also, assuring that you can never lose more than the current day’s updates. Same situation brother😔

There is NO situation. On average, you can expect about a 1% drop in battery health per month. That is 100% NORMAL and EXPECTED. You cannot stop battery health decline in any way. It's what batteries do. ALL BATTERIES.

The "situation" is, people simply do NOT understand that rechargeable batteries lose the ability to hold the same charge as new with every full cycle battery charge.

You should also note that letting your battery charge go below 20% as is shown in your screenshot, ages a Lion battery faster. If you routinely do this, you are NOT treating the battery well. If you let the battery fully deplete, that is even worse. You should be charging your iPhone at night when you sleep, leaving it plugged in to charge, all night every night, with Optimized Battery Charging turned on.

You cannot compare your iPhone to your mom's iPhone as there is no way you are both using and charging your phones in exactly the same way. Nor doing exactly the same things at the same time. You may play more games or stream more media than your mom.

I have read it here: How to Stop Battery Health Drainage of iPhone 14/15 Pro that if an iPhone is discharged completely 25 times (25 charge cycles) 1 percent battery health is dropped. I also further discussed this with apple and they have confirmed this. As you mentioned your brother's phone has still 100% battery health so he might haven't used 25 charge cycles yet, moreover there are other factors too that affect health drainage which you can read in the guide I mentioned. You can also follow some tips as well in order to stop battery health drainage too quickly.

Let’s define “overheating”. If an iPhone overheats it shuts down so it can’t be used, and displays a message saying it must cool down before it can be turned on, and it will probably be unusable for an hour or so. If you are seeing this it is a hardware problem and you should contact Apple support:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

If you are not seeing this your phone has not overheated. However, if you fast charge your phone may pause charging at 80% and display a message saying that charging has paused, and will resume when the phone cools down. This is NOT overheating, and is normal when fast charging.

Also, some apps that use a lot of energy or that use cellular data rather than Wi-Fi can cause the phone to run warmer.

I checked with apple support they said 1-2 % drop per month is normal. They can only replace battery if it reaches 80 before one year but i think it will reach to 80 after one year and 2-3 month then the device will be out of warranty and will have to pay 9800₹ for battery. These all are money game bro they just want customer’s money. Battery quality is worst on 15 series. Same issue with my iPhone 15 plus battery.

doctorfetch ~ Apple says: "Maximum battery capacity measures the device battery capacity relative to when it was new." ...So not relative to 5th November. And before then, it was probably in a storage facility for several months.

Also, in measuring a chemically dynamic process such as in a battery, it's unlikely that the estimate can be accurate to within 1 or 2%. Read more in this Apple Support Article:

What’s going on is perfectly normal. After 2 months an iPhone battery would be expected to be 98%, as on average batteries lose about 1% per month. And it probably isn’t 98.0%, more likely 98.9 or 98.8% as the gauge only displays the whole number part.

Yups I purchased IPHONE 15 PRO
i'm facing the same issue within 80 cycles, i just checked today battery was on 99% I don't know it comes to this percentage today or when. I Also don't know whether it's normal or not. I'm using iphone from very long like since 11 pro. But this time I'm facing this issue. On the other hand battery backup is not so much affected. Maybe it's because of IOS version.

Do the math. It is rated to stay above 80% for 500 charge cycles. That means it is EXPECTED to drop 1% for every 25 charge cycles. So you are doing BETTER THAN THAT, because you have only dropped 1% for 80 cycles. Most phones with 80 cycles would be at 97%.

Look, you can drop all the chemistry stats on a typical use case scenario you want to but it isn’t as simple as that.

If your optimizing your iPhone (as I do to the 9s), have average usage without causing much overheating of the battery via demanding tasks or apps you can preserve overall battery health.

I’ll give you an example, I optimize my former iPhone 13 Pro Max and was able to maintain 100% battery health for nearly one year before degradation began. I had the 14 Pro Max and was able to maintain that battery health at 100% for nearly 6 months. I understand each OS is optimized differently but I think that speaks for itself.

It’s not always black and white or an apples to apples comparison based on battery chemistry science and pooled stats over time. The reason they optimize software is not only for performance but to maintain battery health and the longevity of the device over an extended period of time, especially with the new sustainability initiatives they are working toward.

I’ve never seen degradation happen this suddenly for ME personally, this is purely based on my experiences and judging by the comments I think others are feeling it too. Easy enough to google stats and drop them like it’s hot, but that’s not how life or in this case battery health degradation works in a perfect world.
