Where are preference files for third party apps?

I'm currently using OS 14.1 on a Macbook Pro.

I'm an old Mac guy who has been lost since Apple got beyond OSX.

I used to be able to trash the preference file for a third party app thereby, but I can't find anything but Apple preference files. It used to be a standard way of solving app problems.

Where are the third party app preference files?

Or have things changed so much that this can no longer be done, or there is a completely different way of accomplishing the same thing?

I believe most apps keep their preferences in a .plist file now. But before removing them, you should always consult with the vendor to insure the app can or will create a new one by itself or if it would just break it because it can't find it. EG-Sometimes when Finder gets hosed, deleting the finder.plist file can straighten out the problem. (Even though it is not a 3rd party app).

A great helper and free app is called Find Any File. You can use that to search for plist files quite easily.
