iMac chime but doesn’t turn on

I haven’t used my iMac in a while. Yesterday I turned it on and got to the login screen. I logged in, it seemed to freeze, then when I looked again the screen was black. Doesn’t seem to be an illuminated black, just black. Now when I try to turn it on I sometimes get the startup chime but that’s it. Holding power doesn’t do anything.
