Am I the only one using my iPad upside down?

I always use my IPad upside down, because I prefer the Touch ID button on the right side, I am right handed. Is that my strange usage method or do more users do this?

iPad, iOS 10

You can use your iPad in any orientation that suits you best - being mindful that the front-facing camera might not be ideally positioned when the iPad orientation places the camera at the bottom edge of the iPad.

If screen rotation proves to be a problem with some Apps - and not others - you need to be aware that not all Apps are coded to operate in both Portrait and Landscape screen modes. Apps that have a fixed screen orientation will always* appear in the orientation determined by the App Developer.

(*) For compatible Apps that are intended for iPhone, iPadOS15/16/17 will now automatically rotate the App to display in Landscape screen orientation. There is no manual configuration or setting to enable this feature.

However, Apps designed for iPad that are expressly coded to force Portrait screen orientation, iPadOS15/16/17 will honour the intended Portrait mode - and will not override the App coding.

For iPadOS16/17, there is workaround for portrait-only Apps. If your iPad model supports Stage Manager, when active, portrait App windows will be displayed in Landscape orientation.

  • iPad Air (5th generation)
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (all generations)
  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation and later)

Settings > Home Screen & Multitasking > Stage Manager > Use Stage Manager on iPad - set to ON

Thank you for your answer. Yes that is right, you can orientate the view in any direction, that is nice and that is why I can use the iPad upside down in landscape modus. I use it upside down mode because the power knob and Touch ID button are then on the right / bottom side. I am right handed and I prefer the buttons on the right for better and faster control. Left/up are in my opinion not so convenient. The orientation problem I have with several apps, I hoped that when Apple separated the iPad OS from iOS they forced developers to use the landscape orientation as default. For me using an IPad in portret mode, I had many models, is not working convenient. The power cable is then, up or down, I prefer left. When I use it with the power cable on top in portrait mode, the cable is hanging over my screen and when using it at the bottom, you can not rest it on your belly, what I like to do for some times. I have an IPad Pro, 2018 model, but now I use the newer iPad 10.9 10thGen with IPados 17.0.3, I can not use the stage manager with this one. I’am still curious if more people using the iPad like I do and hope I will get more input on this subject.
