Personal hotspot using too much data under "other devices"

Hello, I am using personal hotspot on my iphone to give my macbook air an internet connection, so I can work. I am traveling overseas and have been using an e-sim (its not exactly cheap so thats why im worrying!). My data usage from only one morning is about 4 GB, without using my phone at all, I was only connected to my macbook which according to the cellular data usage, was only about 455 MB. Why is this happening? these are my only two mac products and i set up a password, so no other device or person would have been able to connect.

Please help.

Thank you very much!

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? Mine is using excessive amounts of data. I never had this issue with my iPhone 13 Pro

When was the last time you reset the statistics?

Scroll to the bottom of the page in Settings ➜ Cellular / Mobile, at the very bottom, there should be a date.

The usage is calculated from that date onward. not from just today or whenever you you turn on Hotspot.

If you have not reset statistics recently, then its adding up all the data usage since the last time it was reset.
