Apple Watch will not synch with Mac for unlocking

In MAC settings under Touch ID & Password, Apple Watch...Use Apple Watch to unlock application and your Mac. Toggle to Green to right and Mac tries to synch but just spins with no results. Times out it seems. Apple Watch series 6 is on wrist and unlocked. Still no luck. Same network and BT is on. Not sure what to do after rebooting several times. MAC and Watch are updated.

Wondering if something in Apple Support's online article may help:

Unlock your Mac with your Apple Watch - Apple Support

eg: says (amongst other tips):

"If you're having difficulty getting Auto Unlock to work, turn the unlock feature off and back on"

On your Mac, open System Settings (or System Preferences) and turn off the Apple Watch setting described in the previous section.
Restart your Mac.
Turn the Apple Watch setting back on.
