I have looked at the Apple article on "changing your watch band," and there does not appear to be a band release button or any button in the area circled on the diagram. This is an Apple SE watch, the smaller one, purchased about a year ago. Hope someone can help.

Thank you for posting that! My watch case is black, or sort of a dark gray, rendering the button invisible to the eyes of people of "a certain age." As soon as I saw your picture, I was able to run my thumbnail along the back and locate the button quite easily. Watchband is replaced! Problem solved.
Perfect! Glad that all has been resolved and the band has been replaced.
