Why doesn’t Apple hide the security code when entering cards into wallet?

I purchased a new iPhone yesterday, and began setting it up at the Apple Store. When it got to the point of asking for my credit cards to be entered into the wallet, it would ask me for the security code of each card, but not hide the code by changing it to dots after I enter it, allowing anyone standing around to see my security code while I waited for the app to add the card. I thought Apple cared about security, how did this slip buy them?

It is no different than looking at the code on your card. It is visible there in plain text for anyone to see. At least with your phone, it requires a PIN for someone to be able to view it from the Wallet app. When viewing this information from the wallet app, you would want to make sure no one else is standing around looking at your iPhone, the same way you would when adding the card to the wallet app.

Your iPhone is much more secure for storing your Credit Card information. If you lose your credit card, any person has full access to your account numbers including your security code. If you lose your phone, no one will be able to access that information without knowing your passcode.
