upgrade MacBook from 10.13.6

hi - i have a MacBook Air with macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

My Google Chrome says it needs to update. And it seems that I need macOS 10.15 or later to do that.

But I don't know how.

There is no option being provided from the Software Update click through. It just takes me to App Store and doesn't show any OS update options.

Anyone able to explain what I'm supposed to do?

The macOS version you can upgrade to depends on the year your Mac was released.

Click the Apple menu () at the top of your screen and choose About This Mac.

Check the Compatibility of your Mac with newer versions of macOS:

➡️ macOS 10.14 Mojave is compatible with the Macs listed here

➡️ macOS 10.15 Catalina is compatible with the Macs listed here

❗️ – IMPORTANT – None of your 32-bit apps will work in macOS Catalina or newer. This includes older MS Office apps and any other older software apps and drivers. These will require that you find 64-bit updates and/or replacement titles. > 32-bit app compatibility with macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later - Apple Support

Use the free utility Go64 to check the 64-bit compatibility of your apps:

✅ - Download the appropriate macOS upgrade installer app:

Click > 10.14 Mojave10.15 Catalina

Once downloaded, double-click the “Install macOS…” app in the Applications folder to begin the upgrade.

The age of your MacBook Air hardware determines if you can upgrade to a newer operating system or not.

Visit Apple menu () : About This Mac and observe the product description line. Look at what is in parenthesis and then determine from the following if your Air supports an upgrade to:

macOS Catalina is compatible with these computers - Apple Support

macOS Big Sur is compatible with these computers - Apple Support

macOS Monterey is compatible with these computers - Apple Support

If you can satisfy the hardware requirements for one of these operating systems, you can obtain the full installer using the Safari browser from:

How to download and install macOS - Apple Support

Do not attempt an operating system upgrade without first backing up your Mac with Time Machine.

Note. None of the listed operating systems above support any 32-bit applications, printer/scanner drivers, or other 32-bit dependencies. Use the free Go64 application to get a list of these, and determine its impact on your upgrade plans. Visit third-party vendors of your installed applications and note if their currently available applications support one of the above operating systems.

Hi,

Also, if your MacBook Air is not compatible with a newer operating system version, or if it is mainly a browser problem:

According to the following article, an extended support release of Firefox appears to be available from Mozilla for macOS 10.13 High Sierra until September 2024, so it may be worth checking whether this possibly could be a temporary solution.
