Photos from MacPro is on external hard drive. When I try to download, it tries to read, then quits over and over again. iPhone is connected to MacPro usb charging cable. Phone shows charging then not, in sun with the efforts to download the photos.

How is the external drive formatted? To get full functionality (and to avoid damaging the Photos Library) an external drive must be formatted in either APFS format or Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. Additionally, the drive can not have had Time Machine on it since it was formatted. "Ignore ownership" must be checked

How are you downloading your pictures? I use iCloud to sync my iPhone with Photos. When I'm in a hurry I may use AirDrop. I haven't used a cable with my phone in a while, so I may not be much help with that.

Download photos from iPhone 12 to MacPro OSX Monterey. MacPro Photos is on external hard drive. When I try to download photos the Mac starts to read, then quits, then starts to read, then quits over and over.
