Drag-and-drop to Automator in Sidebar giving the "no" symbol

I have an Automator that I put into the sidebar for Finder windows, which I use a LOT to drag-n-drop files onto so that they are processed. This has worked since I made it back on 10.14, and worked in 10.15, and os 12. Now I'm on os 13, and the dropping doesn't work anymore.

Now when I drag a file to it in the sidebar, it just gives me the circle/slash "no" icon on my cursor, and I cant drop the file onto the Automator.

The Automator works just fine if I locate it in another finder window, and position the windows next to each other then drag the file onto the Automator directly in that fashion. So the Automator itself isn't really the problem. It works.

Obviously doing my workflow in that manner is out of the question because of how stupid awkward that would be juggling windows around so I can get both file and automator in view to drag and drop too.

So why on earth would this be changed in macos13 Ventura, so it now wont let you drag-n-drop things to automators in the sidebar?

I guess I can put the Automator into my Dock and drag to there (which does work) ... its just a big change in my muscle memory to do. But if finder window sidebars no longer work worth a ****, then I guess I'll have too.

So I managed to finally fix it (???) after fussing about. This is what I exactly did to get the Automator in the Finder Windows Sidebar to finally accept Drag n Drop files:

  • I opened up Automator itself, and loaded up the Automator script in question.
  • I then made a "Duplicate" of the whole thing.
  • Saved the duplicate in the same folder as the original.
  • Dragged and added the duplicate Automator script to the sidebar.
  • ** At this point the ORIGINAL Automator in the sidebar began accepting drag-n-drop files **
  • Removed the duplicate from the sidebar.

Everything is now working properly. What in blue blazes.
