Do you have Finder {Settings/Preferences} set up to show CD volumes on the Desktop and in the Sidebar?
Was this a Mac-format or hybrid CD made on an old Mac? Recent versions of macOS have dropped all support for the HFS (no "+") filesystem, and it's been reported in these forums that they will read neither HFS-only or "hybrid" CDs.

Do you have connected it via a dock? You want to connect it directly via an usb a to usb c adapter if you're using it on a usb c port. The dock gives too less power to the superdrive
