Best GPU to put into my PowerMac G5

Hello guys,

a few years ago I got a PowerMac G5 as a gift with unknown condition, working or not. Today I decided to try powering it on. And it works flawlessly, everything is original. Sadly it’s the single core 1,8GHz model which came with 256mb of RAM. I already ordered the maximum supported RAM 4x 1G sticks to replace it. The GPU that’s in the system is the stock NVIDIA 5200 FX. I want to upgrade it aswell since it only has 64MB of VRAM.

Obviously I googled already my question but since there are so many PowerMac models and mine seems to be quite rare I couldn’t find a definite answer. I know i have a AGPX8 slot. And there are the X800(XT) and X850(XT). Also I heared about the 7800 GS from NVIDIA.

I was wondering is 256MB of VRAM the maximum I can get on this system or does the 7800GS also work?

And also I wanted to mention that I’m not willing to do any ROM flashing or stuff like that, I just want the fastest GPU I can just plug into the motherboard and have it running.
