eGPU card compatibility with iMac 2017

Hi there


Could someone please advise on the following:


I have an iMac running on macOS Monterey (v 12.6) with the following specs:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017)

Processor: 3.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5

Memory: 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4

Startup Disk: Macintosh HD

Graphics: Radeon Pro 570 4 GB

Thunderbolt 3 


As I use it primarily with 3d architecture & rendering softwares such as ArchiCAD, Twinmotion, Cinema 4D I need to upgrade the graphic card specs asap. 

For this I want to use an eGPU card AMD Radeon RX 6900XT or RX 6700XT with 16GB memory on a Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Box 750ex chassis. 

Would all these combined be compatible to one another as I see the graphic card doesn’t mention being macOS compatible in the specs?
