After iOS 17.1 Random Chimes

Since downloading iOS17.1 my phone has started making random chime sounds at varying intervals. They are not driven by notifications because I’ve turned off all notification sounds, I’ve checked accessibility features, and even put the phone on silent. I looked at the clock and timer. This was not happening before the download/install of the latest update.

It’s been happening to me too. The chime is named “rebound” for me and is not assigned to any notification I have.

I’ve started to note the times and app events when it comes on and it seems random.

even activating Notices summaries don’t have an event that correlates with the times they sound.

it’s most likely an update bug but with the advent of no-click Spyware going around, 🤷🏻‍♂️

same here! Mine also vibrates with the sound.

Glad I’m not the only one, bc I have been trying to figure out if I am missing something important in one of my apps due to not knowing what this sound is associated to. It’s driving me so crazy because it goes off all the time.

my is also making the rebound sound! I had to listen to all of them to figure out which one it was, and I’ve never assigned that sound to anything.

please can we get a fix soon!!

I just want to report here that I am experiencing the same exact issue. The Rebound sound goes off randomly and I have no idea why. I even tried silencing all of my notifications and it still keeps happening. It's been happening to me for at least the past month or so and I finally decided to do some research into this today because I'm just so tired of hearing this sound randomly go off. It's driving me insane. If it's been happening to this many of us, then I suspect it is most likely from some kind of update bug that needs to be patched. I just turned on my ipad a few minutes ago and there is a new update, so hopefully this will resolve the issue. Fingers crossed!

Hi all. After a less than stellar chat experience, I was connected with Wendy from tech support. We were on the phone for about 45 minutes total. We were trying things then she would call me back. I continued to get the vibration while on the call but the gong tone was quite faint. Bottom line, in Safari, we reset all the feature flags. So far, I've had nothing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this is it. Hope it helps someone. It was driving me crazy. And I have to give a shoutout to Wendy. I don't always have a great experience with support, but she was awesome! Where it was: Settings>Safary>Advanced>Feature Flags>Reset All to Defaults. Hopefully this is it, but its the longest I've gone so far without this phantom notification.

Last night I started getting a random two note noise, like two chords on an organ - high, low. This has happened 4-5 times, both when I was using my phone and when the screen was locked.

I have never heard my phone make this (very retro) noise before. I looked, but did not find a sound called "rebound".

My 13 Pro Max has been on 17.2.1 for awhile (auto update is on but has rarely ever worked). Now that I see that I am a couple of updates behind, I will catch up and see what happens. (This is the buggiest phone I have had in my series of increasingly buggy iPhones).
