No sound in Mac Mail

I checked my mail settings. Box is checked for "Play sounds for other mail actions". Still no sound. I restarted the Mac, re-set the mail accounts, still no sound. Running Mac Studio, OS Sonoma 14.0

Change new message notifications

  1. In the Mail app  on your Mac, choose Mail > Settings, then click General.
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Change new message sound: Click the “New message sound” pop-up menu, then choose a sound.
    • Change the mailbox for new message notifications: Click the “New message notifications” pop-up menu, then choose a mailbox.

Change or turn off all notifications from Mail

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Notifications in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Go to Application Notifications on the right, click Mail, then do any of the following:
    • Change notifications: Set options, such as the style of notifications, where to show them, and more. For more information about the options, click the Help button  in the bottom-right corner.
    • Turn off all notifications from Mail: Turn Allow Notifications off.

Note: To display notifications from Mail when a Focus is on, you must allow the notifications to appear. See Set up a Focus.

If that doesn't help...


To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...


Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
