Search on Apple TV using the remote only gives me the option to search for Apps or music but no movies

there’s definitely a glitch, but I found out about a workaround.

If you go to the AppleTV app (like you’re going to watch an Apple TV show)

go to the search feature there (magnifying glass) and put in what movie or show you’re looking for.

It will bring up results across all of the streaming platforms. I have updated and restarted multiple times, and the glitch still hasn’t been worked out. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.

okay so instead of going to the magnifying glass to search go to the appletv app (like you’re gonna watch an appletv show) and search there and boom! movies and tv shows come up. hopefully it gets fixed in the next update

Same thing happened to me today, but I updated my software and it fixed the problem. However, you might not have the same software I do. :(

As the current experience is different from the documentation, I would suggest to report this bug as a problem with (probably) the current version tvOS software: Feedback - Apple TV - Apple.

i thought i was searching in the wrong place as well. i guess there’s some glitches they need to work out with an update. I restarted my AppleTV many times, and tried different amounts. It didn’t matter. Yesterday I tried on my bosses Apple TV, and had the same issue. Incredibly annoying.

This is actually worse than merely not showing movies and TV shows within the Search app. Effectively, the Search app on Apple TV used to list what seemed to be the most watched shows and movies across all streaming services (not just Apple TV). This was my go-to way of figuring out what was new for the week and what to watch. Now, you have to go into each streaming service separately to figure out what's new. Please bring back the old functionality to the Search app, Apple!!!! Thank you!

I'm also experiencing this issue. It seems intentional to me, like Apple want us to use the search function in the Apple TV app instead. Seems like Apple may be done helping us find movies in streamers outside of their ecosystem (ATV+ or Apple Store.)

It seems they’ve switched it, maybe to correlate search with iTunes instead of the tv side of things. Anyway you can search for movies on other platforms through the Apple TV app, you don’t need a subscription to do so.

I am experiencing the same issue. I unplugged, reset, restarted to no avail. All it shows are songs, albums or podcasts.

Search on my Apple TV used to search across the tv apps I had installed (Netflix, crave, prime, apple tv etc). Now all that comes up is apps and music.

on my tv this is utter garbage. This just as apple just increased my monthly sub fee from $8.99 to $12.99.

Yes they’ve taken away the ability to see movies on other streaming services. They want you to buy it only from Apple. I used to find movies that were to purchase or rent only on Apple that I could see for free on other services, but they’ve stopped that. Why watch something for free when you could pay Apple for it? I don’t suspect they’ll ever change this now.

Voice search is completely broken. You can no longer search by voice within an app like YouTube or twitch. And even the main Apple TV app for movies and tv shows doesn’t allow search by voice anymore either. It says hold the microphone to search, yet it doesn’t do anything now.

PLEASE FIX ASAP. Search is a primary necessary function in all apps.

My Apple TV has been up to date for a while. Still have the issue.

Same here with being current on system updates and I am also having this search issue with movies. Has anyone heard from Apple on this? It seems like it happened in the past week or so…
