Never had a password for Imac
I bought a refurbished MAC and only needed to hit enter to access. I did a software update and now I get a password request screen.Any way to bypass this or establish a password?

From whom?
Unless you bought it from Apple, it was used and the seller did not properly configure it for sale. A Mac that has not been properly configured for sale will most likely be useless to you or anyone else. Contact the seller and ask them to comply with these instructions:
What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac - Apple Support
Those instructions are not optional and must be complied with.
Otherwise return the Mac for a full cash refund.

To my knowledge it is no longer possible to create a User Account with no password — however — it was possible in what has become the distant past. If you bought that refurbished Mac from Apple's Certified Refurbished page, and you chose to migrate its content from your previous Mac, and if that previous Mac did not require a password, then the new one won't either. In that case, simply hit the Return or Enter key when prompted for that (blank) password. That will work.
