Allow Gmail App to Access Contacts (iPad)

iPad does not seem to have an option to allow the Gmail App to access the contacts on my iPad (unlike the iPhone Gmail App). This means that when composing an email on my iPad in the Gmail App, none of my contacts are available. Any thoughts?
