accessing old hard drive from MacBook Pro

I have the internal 2.5” HDD from an old MacBook Pro I sold around 2012-ish. I can’t remember the exact date or model which means I can’t remember which version of MacOS is on the hard drive. I currently have a 2017 MacBook Pro running Ventura, how can I access the files on the old hard drive? I have an external enclosure coming in the mail today.

Will I have to try and boot from the old hard drive? Or is there a way to just get the files off? Thanks!

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 13.6

You should be able to put it in the enclosure and plug it into your new Mac

You’ll see about four folders in the top level, one of them being Users.

Your old home folder will be inside of the Users folder.
