Same issue here, did anyone solve this?

macOS 14.1.2 (23B92)

Mac Studio 2022

Screenshot with my phone, because recovery mode.

Same result with 'system-override' without arguments.

I was able to solve the problem by turning off FileVault. As soon as I did that, I rebooted into recovery and the command worked.

I think there's also a way to mount the file vault encrypyed volume through terminal, but clicking file vault off was easier for me than looking it up.

It's surprising that this isn't mentioned at all in Apple's support document since FileVault is on by default.

Hi,

I tried to perform this same operation on my m1 MacBook Air running Mac OS 14.0 and cannot find the executable for system-override (I can't see the executable in recovery mode or regular boot mode).

I have spotted that the support note with this command, references Mac OS Sonoma 14.1, perhaps this command is only available from 14.1. It would be worth updating and checking if the command becomes available.

You need to boot into recovery mode (depends on whether you are on Intel or Apple metal) and then open a terminal. Only then (after possibly decrypting the target volume, but you'll get an error message) will you be able to issue the command

system-override legacy-camera-plugins-without-sw-camera-indication=on

Let's just say that a meaningful error message or logs would have been great.

this is all very new to me... I just need to uninstall Sonoma 14.1.1 without losing all my stuff. i dont have an external hard drive. everything is backed up on icloud. i just really dont want to mess this up. and it seems some people are having issues when it comes to the terminal part of the instructions on the webpage that Apple Support posted that is titled:

"If you cant use your camera or video output device after updating to MacOS Sonoma 14.1.1"

If anyone can give me a step by step instructionon how to just go back to the previous version before Sonoma 14.1.1 without using an external anything to save my files, and doing so without losing everyting on my computer, or having to factory reset... i believe it would just make me update it straight back to Sonoma 14.1.1, would it not?

anyways thanks in advance for anyone who helps, I'd greatly appreciate it.

You should not hijack a topic. The author's problem is about camera compatibility and your problem is nowhere the same. Start your own topic so you'll get responses that are directed for your problem.

Just so you know that iCloud Drive/Photos are not off computer storage facilities. They are syncing features so that all devices using the same Apple ID can have the same documents and photos on them. If you mistakenly delete a file or photo from your Mac it will be deleted from iCloud with no possibility of recovery.

If you value your data get an external HDD and setup a backup strategy with Time Machine.
