i was wondering if I could have my old MacBook Pro refurbished for word processing. It still works just very slow.

Pls. tell us the exact model MBP you have. Do Apple > About This Mac and tell us what it says for the following:

version of macOS
the model MacBookPro
memory
processor
graphics.
