2018 13” MBPro. Damaged display. How to back up?

Closed the lid on my MBP and didn’t see end of USB_C cable on top right hand corner of keyboard surround.

Has not cracked external screen, but inner ‘pixel’ layer of display is damaged. All weird lines and patterns, then goes black.

Screen is now useless. Last back up using Carbon Copy Cloner was one month ago.

Is there any way to do another backup now with the screen not working before taking to Apple for repair?

Also. Any way to wipe before taking in?

Rough idea of cost to replace screen?

Clamshell mode. Connect an external display, external keyboard and mouse (or trackpad) and you can use your Mac with the lid closed.

Only a very small group of iMacs could ever accept external video. The speeds and the timing required is ferocious.

got a TV set?

got a ThunderBolt to HDMI adapter/cable?

if you don't care if the lid is open or closed, neuroanatomist's procedure works fine for adding and using an additional display. But if you literally want to close the lid, you MUST have the power adapter connected as well, or it just goes to sleep.

To toggle the sense of [√] Mirror Displays, use:

Command-BrightnessDown

My daughter has an old 2013 MacBook Pro. The one with 4 Thunderbolt ports. Could I use that as an external display?

Maybe with some sort of Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 4 (USB_C) connection.

I just need to make a Carbon Copy Cloner back up, and erase HD, so I can take to Apple.

Just did my back up, and now just have to erase restore before taking to Apple.
