All desktop folders appear every individual desktop folder

Hi Folks,

I'm on an iMac (late 2015) running Monterey 12.7.1 and this problem is essentially a repost of Elucia123's 2018 query about the following:

All of the folders on my desktop, when opened, contain an identical list of ALL the folders on my Desktop, including the folder just opened. I noticed the problem shortly after a security update to Monterey.

For example, when I open a file named 'Computing" the contents show all the folders and files on my desktop. The 'Computing" folder within that list contains the correct contents as do all other folders in that same 'folder within a folder'.

This is true for ALL FOLDERS on my Desktop.

I've tried starting in Safe Mode followed by a normal restart as suggested by Cunia, another forum member, but without success. Also tried a suggested hold on the Option key while clicking on Go to pull up Library, then to Preferences to remove the com.apple.finder.plist to the desktop followed by a reboot, but to no avail.

All the 'folder within folders' contents work normally when selected and this is more an inconvenience than an operational problem. Still, I'd like to get it sorted if possible.

Thanks ahead to anyone who takes a shot at this.
