If it's getting warm, that's normal. If it's getting too hot to hold, that might indicate a problem. Make sure that you are not charging the phone on a soft surface such as in your bed or on a pillow. It won't ventilate properly there.

If it's still getting too hot to touch even on a hard surface, unplug it and contact Apple to have the run diagnostics.

It can be normal, depending on the charger, if it's a wireless/magsafe it's more likely, if it's a cheap charger it's possible, usually with a good wired charger it doesn't. You can update to the latest IOS 17.1.1 and Force restart your iPhone
