Apple just released iOS 17.1.2. Update your iPhone, then after the update completes, Force Restart your iPhone by following these directions --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

Keep the Force Restart instructions as I do this after EVERY iOS update and I've never had an issue caused by any update in all the years I've owned an iPhone.

New insight by accident - everything was working fine till I pulled in to reply to email in a car park full of discoverable devices and though I could connect I could not play music from my iPhone at all.

If you have the device under settings - bluetooth click “i” then “device type” then select the right type type and see if it helps…worked for me (on 17.3.1)

I am running 17.4.1 on an iPhone 13 MAX PRO. Unfortunately, the problem persists. The fastest way to get Bluetooth to work for me is:

Settings->Bluetooth->Bluetooth On/Off. Turn Bluetooth off then Turn it back on.

Go down the list of known devices and select the device you are using. Then it connects. That works for me.

I need others to try this to see if it works for them.

Symptoms for me:

  • Earphones connected, but the connection drops almost immediately after
  • When tapping on the earphones in bluetooth menu to force reconnection, it just keeps loading for a long time, reconnected, but then connection drops again right away.
  • After resetting and repairing earphones, connection will stay but audio won’t play.
  • Somehow my 1st airpods pro had no issue. And with airpods connected before I attempt to connect the other earphones, those issues went away.

Managed to fix this by resetting settings of the entire phone (General > Transfer or reset iPhone > Reset > Reset all settings)

Again, similar to others’ experience, Apple support is barely useful. I filed the query under iPhone and they immediately assume you are using airpods and started by asking about serial number of an airpods.

I had a rather sinister issue with 17.1.1 when my 12 pro max connected to the car with no problem but would not connect to audio. After deleting and re pairing a couple of times with no success it actually froze the car audio/satnav unit until I turned Bluetooth off in phone. Shut down and rebooted phone and everything is ok, but it suggests there may be a deeper problem that needs to be identified.

me too. I headed to the Apple Store today. All they can do is running the diagnosis for the hardware and everything looks fine, and they can only reinstall the operating system for me which I do not think would be useful. I am holding iphone 15 pro max with ios 17.1.2

whenever I come into my car, the bluetooth will disconnect automatically and connect again, more wired thing is only happens inside my car.

And the glitch is still, I've did the troubleshooting

  1. I forget the devices and repair, no help.
  2. I forget the devices on my car system, no help
  3. I restarted the iPhone, no help
  4. I searched my car to see if there is any other bluetooth device, none, and no help
  5. I use Apple official cable line to avoid electrical field which may cause bluetooth signal unstable, and no help
  6. I try to use another bluetooth device(SONY 1000XM4), and still disconnect and connect back and forth
  7. Pair with my another iphone 13mini, works good ( Guess this is because of the iphone 13mini has 17.0 ios version)
  8. reset the bluetooth device, no help.

That is very annoyed.

I have the same issue with iOS 17.2.1 (Also with iOS 17.1.1) Will not air drop either direction. Will no longer pair with either of my MBP's. Ventura or Sonoma. This is an enormous issue Apple, what are you doing???
So both bluetooth and airdrop have failed.
Apple offers to take logs from my machine, for me to wipe it clean and reinstall the os! etc..
This is ridiculous! Apple you have sunk to a very very low quality level. Even Safari routinely locks up on me.
Not to mention Time Machine deciding that it won't scroll after using its Account Migration feature. Banish the feature or clean it up.
Come on! Get it together... You have a massive backlog of bugs and an even larger user base hoping you will come through!

You are NOT speaking with Apple. This is strictly a user to user only forum, which no one from Apple actively participates. Asking Apple what they are doing here gets you nothing.

Use this feedback link if you want to let Apple know your thoughts --> Feedback - iPhone - Apple

PS: On iPhone 15 Pro Max with iOS 17.2.1, I have absolutely no Bluetooth issues at all. The advice to reinstall iOS might be a good solution. What happened when you did as they suggested?
