Scenario: US account, with US credit card, will travel and live in China for a while.
When we lived in other Asian countries, support told us AppleTV would not work. But it did just fine. We could subscribe to shows, download to local device, stream when we wanted, on US release schedule.
What is the China situation? Keep in mind this is an existing US market account and we are only there temporarily.

The Great Firewall of China blocks loads of servers in other countries, including media consumption — incomparable to other Asian countries. Don’t expect any service from abroad that isn’t actively filtered. But that is reported from others; I haven’t been there myself. Hong Kong, Macau is a bit more open, but that’s about it.
I know about the firewall. What I am asking is if people have real life experience getting it to work. Most people who live there temporarily have figured out ways to set things up.
