Why the number on my watch not working

The telephone number assigned to your watch is slaved to your iPhone, and cannot be called directly.

Calls to your phone can be answered on your watch, and you can make calls from your watch as well...but, as I said, they're all slaved to your iPhone (regardless of whether your iPhone is with you or somewhere else).
