Macbook pro 2015 battery issues after Monterey 12.7.1

Hello, newbie member here.

Upgraded to Monterey 12.7.1 one week ago and now have a reported battery issue, and shutting down at 61% batttery. Previously no issues reported and battery would run down to 2 or 3% every time if I forgot to charge. My battery cycle count is 542.

Is this a known issue with this os version, or any suggestions would be very welcome.

Many thanks, John D

The fact it indicates " Service Battery " is a good indication to have the Battery Replaced

Add to that, from what I can find >> Retina MacBook Pro 15" mid 2015 model. The theoretical capacity of this battery when new was 8755mAh.

Versus " Also...Battery Information>>Full Charge Capacity>>1711(mAh) "

1 - Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

2 - Make an Appointment at the Apple Genius Bar or call 1 800 MyApple and have them evaluate the computer

Is there a message against the Battery in the System Information Utility >> " Service Battery " ?

Yes, 542 Full Battery Cycles is well within the 1000 Full Battery Cycles publishes for their Batteries

The other important part being " Does it show 80% Capacity "

The Full Battery Cycles and the 80% Capacity become critical in this setup

Should the Service Battery message appear - Yes the computer may Auto Shutdown without a warning of " Low Battery "

That is because the Battery can not provide reliable battery power.

You can downgrade to Big Sur

Though doing so will probably have no effect on improving the batter health.

It may even have the opposite effect.

Lithuim batteries to not suffer from Battery Memory issues

That was the problem with old cadmium batteries

No to discharging the battery further without causing the computer to switch off

I do Welcome more input from my trusted Colleague @BDAqua 👍

Thanks for your input. I should have included that mine is an early 2015 13" version and searching shows it should have a battery capacity of 6600 mAh, so I'm still down on peak, I accept.

I have 2 reamaing questions though, if you can help?

1) I'm suspicious that everything was fine until the update to Monterey, literally days later the battery problem occurs. I realise it could be coincidence, but...should I attempt to roll back to Big Sur?

2) Is there a way to force the battery to drain lower without it shutting down?

Cheers

John D
