Apple Watch Series 9 Brightness is Too Dim in Dark Rooms

I just upgraded from an Apple Watch 5 to 9, and I thought the 9 would actually be brighter in darker conditions than the 5, but, I'm finding it impossible to read my watch in a dark room because the display is way too dim. Even the larger text is hard to make out, and my eyes really aren't that bad.

I've searched the settings and can't seem to find anything that lets me fix this problem, but I'm hoping it's just that I'm missing some obvious feature that will let me make the display brighter in dim light situations. Can someone please tell me where to find this setting?
