Imac 2007 Maximum RAM

HI, I'm seeing conflicting information regarding the maximum amount of ram I can install in my 2007 imac 7.1

running El Capitan.

I've seen on the community her somewhere that I can run 6GB but elsewhere it states 4GB.

It currently has 3GB and I would like to max it out ...

Do I buy a 2GB to replace the 1 or a 4GB to replace the 1?

Any advice appreciated as I am new to the Mac world.

Thanks

The official specification is 4GB.

It has proven possible to take it up to 6GB. You can buy RAM from Macsales.

You can get a 6GB kit from them for $69.

Just so you understand, though, that Mac is long obsolete. El Capitan is as far as it can go OS wise.

I wouldn't invest the money in it.
