You don't rename devices using Find My. You rename a device on the device that you want to rename.

Example.....on an iPhone or iPad

Tap Settings > Tap General > Tap About > Tap Name

You can edit the name of the device now. Do the same on other devices.

Things are not so easy on a Mac. Post back if you need instructions.

WHY are you sharing an Apple ID with anyone else? Apple does NOT recommend sharing Apple ID's at all. Every person should have their own Apple ID. Then the family can use Family Sharing to share content, such as Apps, Photos, Storage, etc.

That's unfortunate logic. Children, regardless should never share an adults Apple ID. By doing this you're permitting your son to have full access to everything on your phone, the internet, the ability to lock you out of your phone, change accounts, buy things, etc.

Apple specifically says Children should have their own Apple ID. Then you put Parental Controls on your sons phone, which will prevent him from making account changes and make the approver for any purchases.

See this about using Parental Controls on a child's iPhone --> Use parental controls on your child's iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

And this from Apple about why each family member needs their own unique Apple ID --> Make sure that each family member has a unique Apple ID - Apple Support

And this about how to set up an Apple ID for a child --> Get an Apple ID for your child - Apple Support

Finally, this about Family Sharing, so you can share the content with your son you want to share --> Family Sharing - Apple

You would be the one to manage his Apple ID. And you would using parental controls make it impossible for him to change his Apple ID. It would make your sons phone more secure, not less secure.
