When I try to update it, it shows no updated iOS I’m still on iOS 12 and I charge my phone up to 100 and it takes like five minutes and then unplug it and then two minutes it’s all the way down to zero and you can’t download certain apps

It is a discontinued model that you can not purchase anywhere new (and is probably difficult to find used at this point). It likely takes so long to charge and the battery drains fast because the battery is beyond its useful life and needs to be replaced. And you can’t download certain apps because the developers are no longer supporting older iOS. This should not be surprising. It is technology wise old and like most technology there is a time when you will need to replace it.

Your phone can't update past iOS 12.5.7. If you are asking why it can't be updated past iOS 12, it's because your phone was released almost 10 years ago, is too old, no longer supported and lacks the ram required to support the newer iOS updates. If you need a phone which can run iOS version higher than iOS 12, then its time to retire you very old iPhone and buy a more modern, newer iPhone which can run higher level iOS versions.
As to your battery question, batteries are consumable parts. If you've never replaced the battery in all these years, it would make complete sense your very old battery depletes quickly, because it likely went past its useful life some time ago.
An iPhone 6/6 plus can't be updated beyond 12.5.7, it doesn't have the hardware required to run anything higher.
If you need a higher iOS version, you will have to purchase a newer phone.
There are no more updates for the iPhone 6 Plus. iOS 12.5.7 was the last and final update for that model.
If you want to run iOS 15, you need an iPhone 7
If you want to run iOS 16, you need an iPhone 8
If you want to run iOS 17, you need an iPhone XR, XS or higher model

Hi KaeBFly. I have an iPhone 6s Plus. I typically run the updates as they show up on my device. I am now updated to 15.8.1 with an update to 15.8.2 waiting to be run. My phone seems to running fine. Should I not have run the updates past 12.5.7?
An iPhone 6s Plus is a newer model than an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus. That ‘s’ makes a lot of difference as to how far you can update the phone.
Since your iPhone can run iOS 15 - unlike the OP’s iPhone - I think you did the right thing in updating. But your situation doesn’t apply to the original question.
