Google Chrome unexpectedly quits on my MacBook Air running High Sierra

macOS High Sierra 10.13.6

I've been using Google Chrome for years - no problem.

Earlier today I clicked a link to open a page and it unexpectedly quit with the error message: to get updates, you'll need 10.15 or later.

So I deleted Chrome completely; shut down my MacBook Pro, then reinstalled Google Chrome using Safari Web browser.

Same issue as before.

I tried to update to a newer version of macOS, but it's not available.

Please advise so I can open Google Chrome again!

Thanks

To upGrade to an newer version of macOS and to get Google Chrome to work also

This 2017 MBA does Qualify to upGrade as far as macOS 12 Monterey

The you can run the more recent version of Google Chrome

Follow this How to get old versions of macOS and choose Monterey macOS 12

Safari will open a redirect and open the Apple Store where the download can commence.

Suggest having at least 50 GB of Empty Space on the drive.

It will allow the Full Version ( about 12.xx GB ) to download, expand and then commence to install.

If there is Third Party Security Software installed - remove it.

It will interfere with both the download and installation process.

The below links will help identify which version of macOS  this computer may Qualify to run.

Computer Qualify for the Monterey upgrade

macOS Big Sur 11 hardware requirements

macOS Catalina 10.15 hardware requirements

Make Time Machine Backup  before doing any upGrades

Notation - Starting in macOS 15 Catalina and above

Everything, applications, drivers and extension Must be in 64 Bit

Anything that is 32 bit will now work and there is no workaround

Suggest using the Go64 application to check Before upGrading

Which exact Mac do you have. Apple logo at top left>About this Mac…

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.

Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
