I used to email or save a Pages document as a Word document using the Export option. Of late this feature doesn’t work. It just closes down when I try exporting as Word. However, I can share/save as pdf but not Word. How can I fix this?

I only have Pages v13.1 on iPadOS 16.7.2 and I have no issue exporting a Pages document to Word and then choosing Mail to attach it — simply by tapping the filename and on the secondary menu, tapping on Export and again on Word. Then pick Mail to attach the Word document.
