How can I paste web links into Compose view on Mail using iPad?

Trying to copy links from a web page and inserting them as links in an email (gmail) on an iPad version 7. ios 15.6.1

When I compose an email on my macbook, I get a toolbar along the bottom with options to Format, attach a file, insert a link, insert an emoji and more. I see nothing like this on my iPad.

Any help appreciated

Inserting a link into the composing window of an email should be straightforward - and require no interaction with the onscreen keyboard...

Simply touch-and-hold (i.e., a long touch) the link or URL that you wish to copy - an action menu will appear; select Copy.

Return to your draft email. Tap the screen to select the insertion point, then again touch-and-hold to again expose an action menu; select Paste.

Edit

Assuming that you are using the native Mail App - and you have updated your iPad to iPadOS 17.x - there is now native a method by which to convert the full URL to a simple text hyperlink...

Begin by pasting the full URL into your draft. Once pasted, tap the link; you'll see a downward arrow appear:

Tap the icon - which will open another menu. From the menu select Edit Text Description

Enter/edit the text that you wish to use as the replacement for the full URL.
