The playlist always default to grid and can't be changed in macOS 14

The TV app has been a disappointment for me. I own 1000+ movies and sadly in TV app the only way to organize them to use playlists. And the playlist feature has the worst user experience for me.

  1. The playlists can't be backup to the cloud. Every time I do the clean-installation for the macOS, they are gone and I have to re-create more than a hundred of lists.
  2. The movie info can only be modified after download. To be able to categorize my movies, I use the grouping in the movie info so I can create a smart playlists to organize my 1000+ movies in ways I like. But having to download the movies first creates a big issue for me.
  3. The playlist always default to grid and can't be changed in macOS 14. Even I changed it to display in list, it just won't stick to it after I click away and back to the playlist.
  4. There is no way to create default list view options for every new smart playlist I created

Overall, the TV app is bad in so many way in terms of organizing the movies you purchased from it. I hope this request gets to the people who care and can do something about it. I can be contacted by my email address associated with this account. Thank you

That is the reason I use grouping and comment fields in the movie info to create my smart playlists. I put the preferred actor names that I like to group into a smart playlist into the comment field. But having to download the movie first otherwise you can’t access and write into the fields creates a big issue. I have to download my 1000+ movies to just access and modify the movie info, that is not only bad for me and also bad to Apple. It creates unnecessary downloads and add pressure on Apple’s servers

Similar issues here, although I have never experienced your first bullet point. I'd like to add a further problem that infuriates me... Playlist folders: When opening the Apple TV application every Playlist folder in the side bar is open ... defeating their purpose. (this has become an additional 'feature' since the release of Sonoma).

Arranging my Apple TV playlists in my preferred layout is now no longer possible as it is 'forgotten' between each load of the application. Apple TV playlist management on the Mac has gone from poor to absolutely appalling.

While I'm here; why is there no Actor category in the smart playlist rules option?
