Until a few weeks ago I could adjust the volume with my Apple TV remote without any visible indicator on the tv-screen. Now a small indicator shows up in the right side of the screen when the volume is adjusted. Is it possible to get rid of this again?

Do you use built-in TV speakers for audio, or something else?
The on-screen volume adjustment indicator would likely be a function of your TV, not of the Apple TV box.
Else try to photograph it and post it here.

Your TV or audio system is overlaying that. Apple TV’s indicators have a different design.
I have the opposite issue. The slider disappeared. When I tried to get it back, I do not have the option.
When I am in the Remote & Devices menu under Home Theater Control, I have:
-Control TVs and Receivers
-Volume Control
The display option that should be under it them is not there.
Software is up to date.

Having the same problem, but there’s no option for volume indicator. Also not seeing options for it elsewhere in settings.
It’s always been on mine on both TV’s but both connect to HomePods
See jkphoto73s answer. That solves the problem.
It only shows up when using the Apple TV. It’s not there when using dvd or cable box.
