I’m entering my passcode I always use in service and will not accept

iPad wants my iPhone passcode!?!? Under setttings it wants me to update Apple ID settings saying “some account services will not be available until you sign in again”. When I click on continue, a window pops ups asking for my iPhone passcode, not the iPad passcode. When I enter the passcode it tells me that the passcode is incorrect. I am entering the correct passcode for my iPhone. I’ve restarted both devices. Why does it think the iPhone passcode is now incorrect when I’m using it to unlock the phone?
